LED Surfaces programmed to make coloured light show
Description of the installation that Hikari s.r.l. made for Ciam S.p.A. at the Salone Internazionale Gelateria Pasticceria e Panificazioni Artigianali (SIGEP, Rimini, 17-21 January 2009)

Hikari s.r.l. new Installation for Ciam S.p.A.:
The walls, with software programmable LED backlighting, are part of a new chassis for a professional pastry and ice-cream refrigerator produced by Ciam SpA and presented for the first time at Rimini SIGEP. Ciam SpA, based in Umbria, is the European industry leader and was awarded one of the “Top Five Stands SIGEP 2009” at this years expo.


LED RGB* Technology:
The two LED panels on the counter face and mounted on the wall, measure 500 x 100 cm and 500 x 125 cm respectively. Each panel is composed of tiled modules measuring 25 x 25 cm each. The modules are connected to one another through a simple cabling system, forming large surface areas onto which lighting effects are displayed uniformly across the expanse. Each module contains 16 individually controllable RGB LEDs.


Control System and Stand Alone function:
For every 20-module expanse, a DMX control unit is required which programs the lighting effects via a dedicated Windows XP software program. Once the lighting effect programming is complete, the sequence of effects can be recorded in the DMX unit allowing the system to operate autonomously (in ‘stand alone’ mode) from a computer. Each unit is equipped with a memory card similar to those found in compact digital cameras.

*RGB = red, green, blue. RGB is an additive color model: combining the three colours with the maximum intensity creates white light while combining pairs of colours creates cyan, magenta and yellow.
